When we met up in Mombasa in May 2019, we stayed first at the Tulia House Backpackers in Nyali. Back then, their website featured a quote from medieval Muslim explorer and scholar Ibn Battuta that prompted James to make the booking: “Travelling, it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” Sometimes words can’t convey everything.
